Physical Space
iPhone 15 Pro
Love the camera and the integrated ecosystem. I was a stalwart Android supporter for years, and when I switched was shocked at the improvement of quality and seamlessness of UX in iOS.
Airpods Pro 2
Another beneficiary of Apple’s vertically integrated ecosystem. The audio quality, bluetooth pairing simplicity, and pragmatic “Find My” integration make these an easy EDC choice.
Apple Watch
Bought it for the sleep tracking features. Kept it for the physical alarm (seriously, small wrist vibration » annoying loud alarm sound), maps integration, stopwatch, and timer voice integration.
Standard Memorandum Notebook
The days go by slow but the years go by fast. By jotting down a daily highlight or two I can live in the moment and my life is more than a blur when I sit down and look back at it.
Kershaw Skyline pocket knife
A dependable and lightweight tool. Has a flat back and a finger notch for a safe, reassuring grip.
Goruck GR1
Bombproof and simple. Throw your gear into it, put it on your back, and go. Expensive, but will last you forever. How long is forever? I’ve used one for over 10 years as a work bag and it looks identical to a brand new bag.
Rite in the Rain Notebook (OR71FX-M)
Small, cheap, durable, weatherproof paper notebooks that you can simply forget about in your back pocket and you are guaranteed to have it when you need to jot something down.
I’ve even run one of these notebooks through the laundry on accident and it not only survived, but I kept using it for months afterwards.
Digital Space
Obsidian
For writing notes and working through ideas.
Obsidian makes it effortless to create a new daily note, auto sync between devices, and hyperlink docs (and even sections within docs!) to create your own knowledge base. The plugin ecosystem offers a lot of feature extensibility.
Zed
For writing code. A high performance, powerful by default (but configurable) text editor from the team behind the original Atom editor.
iA Writer
Purpose-built to support writing and editing content. If you are creating written content and not using iA Writer you are doing yourself a disservice.
Kagi Search
If you’re not a customer, you’re the product. Kagi search is fast, privacy-focused, and - most importantly - provides actually relevant results.
At it’s core, Kagi is an ad-free search engine that puts Google to shame. Their “Ultimate Plan” includes unlimited searches and access to the Assistant, so I get access to a panoply of LLM services with optional augmentation through Kagi searches. Legit.
Orion
A fast, zero telemetry, ad-blocking browser for macOS and iOS that integrates with Kagi search.
Things3
The best way to keep track of projects, actions, and tasks across both my personal and professional life.
It has all the features you need and the right level of rigidity and flexibility. Things3 gets out of your way and lets you get work done instead of using all your time and energy trying to organize it.
Apple Music
The audio quality and immersive qualities of Spatial Audio are significant differentiators that push Apple Music over Spotify.
For me it was like the first time watching an HD movie after a lifetime of SD; you just can’t go back.
